19: What do you think about tarot cards?

I’m not sure how many stories there are about the origin of the tarot but, the one that I read said that they were originally invented for ‘wise men’ from various countries to communicate. Frankly, I find the cards’ use of symbolism to be genius. There are of course variations but I haven’t spent much time investigating different types of tarot decks because my father reads cards using Rider-Waite-Smith, so I used those for my research. The book ’the Tarot’ by Paul Foster Case is nothing short of brilliant. It doesn’t really talk much about divination but it goes into detailed explanations on interpreting the meanings of the cards. There are countless truths that can be discovered just by studying them.

Tarot cards are a tool, and like any other tool, they can be used in either a ‘good’ or ‘bad’ way. They work because the essence of who we are is in all things that we do. The symbols on the cards contain a deep archetypical language that resonates with our higher consciousness. The results of a card reading, is of course limited by the talent of the card reader. I have seen too many amazed clients, of my father’s, to doubt their potential for accuracy. Basically, I believe that the ‘good’ way of using the cards is to find ways to develop one’s potential by studying the symbolism or by using them in readings other than those of the future. For instance, it would be good to give a young person a reading, to tell them about some of their talents, that they may have overlooked developing.

The future is there for the reading or it can be read using various methods. The thing about the future is that it’s meant to be lived, and not predicted. A better use of energy is living the present in a way that will result in a positive life. I have known people that received help from a seer that ended up wanting the seer to make every decision for them. This is not good.

I feel that it’s healthier to let go of the future. It will come. If you maximize your potential today tomorrow will be fine!

  1. Great post! The value of divination lies in mapping out thought and behavior patterns, and how we interact with influences, energies and in situations ... more so than in predicting the future. Cards are - in fact - not necessary to foresee a possible future. It is only to look and truly SEE who you are or whom is before you. Moreover, there is no future, past or present as all exist simultaneously, and the "future" can be created in the blink of the Mind's Eye. IMHO of couse.
